We fill senior, technical and hire-to-hire roles in three to six weeks by headhunting candidates your last agency couldn't reach.

PNET's 2026 Job Guide names Manufacturing & Assembly as one of twelve South African sectors with strong, sustained hiring activity, alongside a warning that competition for talent at the lower-experience end is intense, with large applicant volumes per role. At the senior end, the dynamic flips. This is likely because, according to Stats SA, the manufacturing sector’s growth rate has decreased. High demand, scarce supply, and most of the people worth hiring are already employed. That is the brief we are built for.
You have probably already paid the cost of a bad manufacturing hire. The plant manager who looked right on paper lasted nine weeks. The production engineer who interviewed well but could not read a line drawing on site. The shortlist of fifteen CVs from a generalist agency, half of whom had never set foot on a factory floor.
A wrong hire in manufacturing costs you in lost output, missed shipments, and the months it takes to restart the search. Most of the South African manufacturers we work with came to us after that experience, not before it.
Recruitment Legends is a specialist manufacturing recruitment agency in South Africa. We place senior, technical, and hard-to-hire roles across FMCG, food and beverage, automotive, components, pharmaceuticals, packaging, and broader industrial manufacturing. Every permanent placement is backed by a 90-day replacement guarantee.
Manufacturing is not one sector. It is twenty, each with its own people, regulations, and operating rhythm. A recruiter who treats them all the same will miss the candidates who actually fit. We recruit across the sub-sectors most active in South African manufacturing.
FMCG, food and beverage manufacturing. Production managers, plant workers, and supply chain leads for dairy, baked goods, beverages, snacks, and packaged foods. Concentrated in Gauteng, KZN, and the Western Cape, with regulatory exposure across FSSC 22000, HACCP, and SANS food safety standards.
Automotive and components. OEMs and Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers across the Eastern Cape automotive corridor (Gqeberha, East London, Kariega), the Rosslyn cluster in Tshwane, and Durban. Roles span manufacturing engineers, IATF 16949 quality engineers, production managers, and plant directors.
Pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and medical devices. GMP-experienced manufacturing leadership, quality assurance managers, validation engineers, and regulatory affairs specialists. Concentrated in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Steel, engineering, and heavy industrial manufacturing. The SEIFSA-affiliated sector. Foundry managers, fabrication supervisors, project engineers, and maintenance leads for capital equipment, mining-related manufacturing, and infrastructure components.
Packaging. Plastics, glass, paper, and flexible packaging, supplying FMCG, pharmaceuticals, and beverage manufacturers. Production managers, technical sales engineers, and process specialists.
Plastics, polymers, and chemicals manufacturing. Process engineers, plant chemists, technical managers, and production leads frequently overlap with packaging and automotive supply.
If your sub-sector is not listed, send the brief. The principles of specialist sourcing apply across manufacturing, and we take on adjacent work often.
We focus on senior roles where the cost of a bad hire is high, and the supply is thin. Grouped by function:
Executive and leadership. CEO, COO, Managing Director, General Manager, VP Manufacturing, Manufacturing Director, Operations Director.
Plant and operations management. Plant Manager, Production Manager, Operations Manager, Site Manager, Shift Manager, Manufacturing Manager.
Engineering. Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Project Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, R&D Engineer.
Quality, compliance, and HSE. Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, QA/QC Lead, Compliance Manager, SHE Manager, Food Safety Manager, Validation Specialist.
Supply chain, planning, and procurement. Supply Chain Director, Supply Chain Manager, Procurement Manager, Planning Manager, Logistics Manager, Demand Planner, Inventory Manager.
Technical specialists. Continuous Improvement and Lean Six Sigma leads, Production Planners, Technical Sales Engineers, Application Engineers.
If your role is not on this list, send it. Most of our work starts that way.
Every brief runs through the same process, adjusted in depth, not in sequence, based on the seniority of the role.
Talent sourcing. Database-led for active candidates, headhunt-led for the passive market. The senior manufacturing candidates that matter are almost always currently employed. Job boards alone will not surface them.
Candidate screening. Technical and behavioural. We screen against the operational realities of the role, not against keywords.
Experience and competency evaluation. Verified examples of what a candidate has actually delivered. Not what their CV claims.
Professional interviewing. First-round structured interviews, conducted by us, with full notes shared before you spend a minute of your own time.
Culture fit assessment. A plant manager who is technically excellent but culturally wrong will leave within a year. We assess fit explicitly.
Background checks. Qualifications, criminal record, credit (where role-appropriate), and reference verification. All is cleared before an offer is made.
Offer discussions and negotiations. We manage the counteroffer conversation. That is where most senior manufacturing hires fall over.
Aftercare and follow-up. Structured check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days. If the placement does not work out within that period, we manage the replacement at no additional cost.
Shortlists are typically three to four candidates, each one already screened, interviewed, and vetted. You interview a small number of strong people, not fifteen unknowns.
Most of our manufacturing placements close in three to six weeks. Time is a by-product, not a promise.
Senior Black manufacturing leaders, engineers, and executives are in the South African market in numbers most generalist agencies never reach, because they are passively employed and do not appear on job boards. Reaching them is a sourcing problem, not a supply problem.
Legends Recruitment is a BBBEE-certified manufacturing recruitment agency in South Africa. If transformation targets are part of how your business is measured, we can also approach the brief with those targets in mind from the sourcing stage onward. Our approach to B-BBEE-aligned manufacturing roles is the same as our approach to any senior placement. We map the market, identify the people doing the work elsewhere, and approach them directly. More candidates exist than your last shortlist suggested. Most agencies simply do not work hard enough at the sourcing stage to surface them.
We do not run B-BBEE recruitment as a separate workstream. It is built into how we source.
Where BBBEE matters to your business, it usually matters in two places: who you hire, and who you spend with. We can help with both.
We work nationally, with operational concentration in the four major South African business and industrial centres.
Johannesburg and Gauteng. The Gauteng industrial belt, Germiston, Wadeville, Isando, and the broader East Rand, is South Africa's largest manufacturing footprint. We place across automotive, FMCG, steel, engineering, and pharmaceuticals here.
Pretoria. Concentrated automotive manufacturing (BMW, Nissan, Ford and their supplier networks) alongside chemicals and engineering. Many briefs here are senior plant and engineering roles for OEM-adjacent suppliers in the Rosslyn cluster.
Durban and KZN. Heavy concentration in automotive (Toyota), FMCG, sugar, paper, and chemicals. Pinetown, New Germany, Mobeni, and Prospecton are the corridors we work most actively in.
Cape Town and the Western Cape. Food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and clothing and textile manufacturing dominate. Atlantis, Epping, Paarl, and Bellville are recurring locations on our briefs.
We also place into the Eastern Cape automotive corridor (Gqeberha, East London, Kariega) for OEM and Tier 1 suppliers, and into smaller industrial centres where senior candidates are willing to relocate.
If your operation is in South Africa, we can work on the brief.
